RVO Salama Hills is hosted at the superb campsite on the Stanley Dairy Farm, Salama. The outstanding scenery extensive network of village roads, jeep tracks and cattle tracks provide 2 days of breathtaking mountain biking.  A good level of level of cycling fitness with average technical skill is sufficient.

KIDS EVENT 8-12 years –  2 days of fun cycling along farm tracks, routes entirely within the farm boundary
KIDS ACTIVITIES –  bush walks and farm animal visit on Saturday afternoon

  • Register for 1 day or 2 days
  • Saturday 07:30 start: Main 60 km / Lite 40 km
  • Sunday 07:30 start: Main 40 km / Lite 30 km
  • Sunday finish by 11:00 ready for early lunch & departure by 13:00
  • Youth 13-17 years –  on Lite route must be chaperoned by an adult

Saturday night ride at 18:00 –  bring your cycling light / head torch / any torch to enjoy 3 laps of a 5 km loop within the farm.

COVID POLICY:  ALL participants and ALL supporters must provide certification of double vaccination against COVID. Failure to provide certification will deny you participation and access to race camp
Exemption: Youth under 16 years of age

VENUE:  hosted on the beautiful Stanley Dairy Ranch, Ulu – 2 km south of Salama Town on Mombasa highway. Expected driving time from JKIA is 2 hours for 75 km . The campsite is only 3 km west off the highway, 4×4 vehicle not required. (Google map)

BIG HILLS:  will exert considerable cardio-vascular demands on all participants. If you are not well trained you can ride as gently as you please, your enjoyment is key.

UNDULATING TRAIL TERRAIN:  with a minimum of technical sections. Whistling thorns abound on stage 2 so tubeless tires filled with an extra dose of sealant is essential (Stan’s is best).

GPS ENABLED SELF-NAVIGATION:  is core to all RVO events. A Garmin GPS is required by each rider (or team) to self-navigate, there are no course markings on this adventure.

INTERVAL START:  teams will start off at 3 minute intervals in reverse seed order (fastest last)

WATER POINTS:  a single water point per stage. In line with true adventures, participants should be self-sufficient for on ride nutrition.

MEDICAL SUPPORT:  Paramedic will be in camp to provide medical support.

VEHICLE SUPPORT:  is not provided; only medical extraction will be provided

MECHANICAL SUPPORT:  Bicycle Garage will be in camp providing their technical support.
