Designed as the ideal introduction to advanced mountain biking, the RVO Sagana Hills is the mid-tier challenge in the RVO series, designed for cyclists with intermediate fitness and technical skill levels. Stage 1 crosses an intricate network of farm tracks which demands concentrated GPS self-navigation. Stage 2 introduces tough climbs with long semi technical descents. 100% GPS self-navigation is required

VENUE: Sagana Gateway Resort is the new race venue for 2017.

RACE FORMAT: A GPS self-navigated adventure across the scenic Sagana, Maragua and Muranga hills; the only course marking is the start / finish line. Solo entrants will be permitted at the discretion of Race Director. Option to ride 1 or 2 days.

  • Saturday afternoon will have a kids race for ages 6 upwards.
  • Saturday night will have a night ride open for all those with headlights.

COURSE DETAILS: Trail terrain is generally smooth but can be raw and technical in some parts. While the altitude is not extreme, the hills on Stage 2 are tough expect to feel like a dead fish if you are out of shape.

NAVIGATION: Adventure and self-reliance are at the heart of all RVO events. Riding this unmarked course requires a Garmin GPS for self-navigation. A Kenya Road map is available for purchase from RVO (pre-loaded onto a micro-SD card ready for use in your Garmin).

SUPPORT: In keeping with true adventures, participants must be self-sufficient during the ride for all mechanical incidences. There will be a single water / food point each day.

An ambulance with first-aid crew will be on-site to provide medical support. Vehicle support will only be provided for medical extraction.
