SELF NAVIGATION
The Optional Prologue (free participation) is a social orientation ride designed to acclimatise international visitors to the high altitude (2100 m) and to learn vital lessons in SELF NAVIGATION using GPS devices. Navigating the RVO demands self navigation across unmapped area. You the human is the navigator - GPS device is a reference tool.
EDEN TEA FACTORY TOUR
The prologue includes a 90 minute guided tour through Eden Tea Factory (Karirana Tea Estate).
Photography is NOT ALLOWED within the factory
Walking space within Eden Tea Factory is limited therefore Prologue start will split into 2 groups with a 30 minute delay between groups. This will allow for adequate space separation within the factory.
Group A : start 09:00 / ETA Lunch 13:00
Group B : start 09:30 / ETA Lunch 13:30
LUNCH AT NIFTY CAFE
Prologue ends with optional lunch at Nifty Cafe (which is just outside of Brackenhurst)
Thirsty throats will be quenched with cold beer & wine at Nifty's.
Brackenhurst property is owned by the Methodist Church and is ALCOHOL FREE.
Registration desk will be open for RVO kit collection from 14:30 - 17:00 at Brackenhurst, inside the Lions Den building.
Kindly confirm your participation at the Optional Prologue.
PRIVATE PROPERTY
The prologue traverses numerous privately owned tea farms, permission has been granted on condition that their privacy is respected and maintained.
NO STRAVA
Publishing your cycling track to Strava (and/or other apps) is prohibited because this will generate heat maps that will attract random others to follow.
You must set to private (or otherwise conceal) your Strava / Garmin Connect and / or any other social cycling app that you might use.
NO STRAVA condition applies to the Prologue and the entire 5-day cycling route on the RVO.I confirm that I shall make private my cycling tracks and not publish to any social mapping / tracking app.

Brackenhurst Conference and Retreat Centre is situated on property owned by the Methodist Church of Kenya.
I acknowledge and respect that Brackenhurst is an alcohol free property and as such I confirm that I shall not carry any alcohol onto the grounds of Brackenhurst.
Nifty Cafe is open for dinner, so you may consume your alcohol and not worry about a Brackenhurst urine test.
