Salama Hills (2) 16-17 May 2020
Salama Hills (2) introduces a new race format with day & night racing; an evening stage of 5 km starting at 17:30 with 2 laps by day + 2 laps by night.
- Saturday 07:30 – 40 km main / 20 km Lite
- Saturday 17:30 – 4x 5 km (2 laps day + 2 laps night)
- Sunday 07:30 – 40 km main / 25 km Lite
- Youth teams 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult
- Beer, BS & Massage available all weekend.
Good level of physical fitness with average technical skills are sufficient, this weekend event is designed for racing fun and family camping.
- 100% GPS: self-navigation is required
- Saturday 07:30 : 40 km main / 25 km Lite
- Saturday 17:30 : 4x 5 km (2 laps day + 2 laps night)
- Sunday 07:30: 35 km main / 20 km Lite
- Youth 13-17: on Lite route must be accompanied by an adult
- Team event with 2 or 3 partners per team
- Solo riders will be accepted at Race Directors discretion
- The only course marking is the start / finish line
- Riders will start at 3 minute intervals in reverse seed order (fastest last)
SH(2) is more technical and intense than SH(1)
Aberdare Hills
RVO Aberdare Hills opens up a new area to intense mountain biking, it puts the “mountain” into mountain biking.
- Saturday 09:00 – 60 km main / 20 km Lite
- Sunday 08:00 – 40 km main / 25 km Lite
- Youth teams 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult
- Beer, BS & Massage available all weekend.
Good level of physical fitness with average technical skills are sufficient, this weekend event is designed as a final preparation for the Rift Valley Odyssey in September.
- 100% GPS: self-navigation is required
- Saturday 09:00 : 60 km main / 25 km Lite
- Sunday 07:30: 40 km main / 20 km Lite
- Youth 13-17: on Lite route must be accompanied by an adult
- Team event with 2 or 3 partners per team

RVO Aberdare Hills enjoys intense climbing with non-technical terrain
Salama Hills (1) 06-07 Feb
RVO Salama Hills is hosted at the superb campsite on the Stanley Dairy Farm, Salama. The outstanding scenery extensive network of village roads, jeep tracks and cattle tracks provide 2 days of breathtaking mountain biking. Good levels of level of physical fitness with novice technical skills are sufficient.
- Day 1 start 07:30 : Main 70 km / Lite 40 km
- Day 2 start 07:30 : Main 35 km / Lite 20 km
- Youngsters 13-17 – on Lite route must be chaperoned by an adult
- Sunday finish by 11:30 for departure by 13:00
Saturday night ride starts at 18:00 – bring your cycling light / head torch / any torch to enjoy a 10 km loop within the dairy ranch.

- Day 1: 70 km – Start 07:30
- Day 2: 40 km – Start 07:30
- Lite route – Saturday 40 km & Sunday 20 km

TRAIL TERRAIN IS MILD with a minimum of technical sections. Whistling thorns abound on stage 2 so tubeless tires filled with an extra dose of sealant is essential (Stan’s is best). In line with true adventures, participants MUST be self-sufficient for on ride nutrition, a single water station per day will be provided.

- 08-12 Mar : 5 day : 425 km : 5,250 m ascent : Laikipia – Lake Bogoria – Menengai Crater – Lake Nakuru NP

Difficulty: High altitude and big mountains, 45% of all cycling will be above 2,000 m altitude (peak race altitude is 2800 m).
You must be physically fit and mentally prepared for this demanding adventure. Because this is a “non-race adventure”, e-mountain bikes are welcome, we will deliver spare batteries to WP2 on each stage.
Supporter package: is available for your #1 fan, package includes daily transport to water points, meals and dome tent in race camp.
1-person dome tents: provided to all participants. Saturday night accommodation post race Maasai Mara is included for both 5 day and 3 day participants. Cottages are available at camp 1 only.

The 2021 Rift Valley Odyssey (RVO) combines multiple concurrent events : 10 day / 5 day / 3 day.
- 14 Sep : Road Transfer : 240 km / 6h drive from Brackenhurst to Laikipia West
- 15-24 Sep : 5 day : 500 km : 9,000 m ascent : Limuru – Lake Naivasha – Mt. Suswa Crater – Maji Moto – Loita – Maasai Mara
- 20-24 Sep : 5 day : 500 km : 9,000 m ascent : Limuru – Lake Naivasha – Mt. Suswa Crater – Maji Moto – Loita – Maasai Mara
- 22-24 Sep : 3 day : 315 km : 5,400 m ascent : Mt. Suswa Crater – Maji Moto – Loita – Maasai Mara
- 24 Sep : Final night : Post race overnight stay in camp for everybody.
- 25 Sep : Transfer by road / air from Maasai Mara
Post-race vacation for 2 nights in Maasai Mara with our customised safari packages at:
